Planning Breast Enlargement Surgery

During the consultation process for augmentation surgery you will need to follow your doctor’s instructions carefully to help avoid complications during or after enlargement surgery.

Whilst consulting with your breast surgeon you will need to decide on the type of implants you want, either saline or silicone implants, how they are situated, or where your incision will be.

Breast implants, whether silicone or saline, have shapes that are round, like a flattened sphere, or anatomical, which have a teardrop shape.  Both have advantages and disadvantages, which you can discuss with your breast surgeon, along with the size, volume and texture of the implants.

Normally you should avoid taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicine prior to your breast augmentation surgery, and if you are smoking you will need to stop, as smoking lengthens your recovery time.  Fill any prescriptions that you will need after the breast enlargement surgery beforehand.

On the day of your surgery you should wear loose-fitting clothing that can be taken off and put back on easily, and ensure you have someone to drive you home after surgery. Breast enlargement surgery usually takes between one and two hours, although the amount of time needed will depend on how and where the implant is placed.
